I’m a very serious Baseball Card Collector. In 2013, I filled a 3 inch binder to the max with zero space in between. Inside the binder were 2013 Series 1, Series 2 and Opening Day Series cards. Do I play with them as much as I did when I was younger? No, but I would never throw them away. They are the backbone of my baseball childhood.
Unfortunately, a simple baseball card no longer seems to excite the younger generation. When I was in fifth grade, my whole class liked trading cards, today it’s all been digitalized. While I’m still a fan of traditional baseball cards, It’s great to see the Topps Company reach out to the younger fans with something more relatable and suited towards them.
MLB Wacky Packages is due out tomorrow, March 9 which comes with “loads of jokes and fun for baseball fans of all ages”. MLB Wacky Packages will feature 90 base cards that parody all 30 MLB teams, MLB events, Minor League Baseball teams and ballpark foods in a comprehensive set. Ultimately, I’m not sure if it’s something I would necessarily buy but if it gets kids interested in our National Pastime, I’m all for it. I wonder if they are going to have team sets of “Wacky Packages”, if so, I might purchase the Mets one.
Along with the stickers that Wacky Packages have been known for since the 1960s, the product will also contain autograph cards from mascots such as Mr. Met and the Phillie Phanatic, and active baseball stars such as Houston Astros’ outfielder George Springer an Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal. Wacky Packages will also have Stadium Seat Relics and Ticket Relics to round out the never-before-done release.
If you’re interested in purchasing one, you can get one at your local hobby shop, Target, Wal-Mart, and Topps.com.
