The Mets opened a four-game set at Citi Field on Wednesday, beating the Marlins 7-5. Here are my takeaways from tonight’s game…
How about that offensive showing? After trailing 3-0 early and looking hapless at the plate for a few innings against Jarred Cosart, the Mets offense got going into gear and wound up scoring seven runs in the game.
What really jumpstarted the offense tonight was Wilmer Flores who hit a game-tying, 3-run home run in the 5th inning, a hit he sorely needed. Flores has struggled both in the field and at the plate, so for him to not only get his first longball of the season but his first RBIs of the season as well, and for them to tie the game, was big.
After giving up the lead the following half inning, the Mets once again responded, this time with an RBI single from Michael Cuddyer
