First off, It’s good to be back here at Mets Plus. Since I’m the lone writer at Mets Plus, I need an occasional break here and there.
Now, with the Winter Meetings in full swing, let’s take a look at two candidates that the Mets can go out and grab.
Let’s first look at acquiring someone via trade, say, Troy Tulowitski. While his price would be hefty, and he hasn’t proven that he can stay healthy, he certainly is an upgrade. In 91 games in 2014, he batted 340, which is very impressive. What’s even more impressive is that he’s home/road splits have been fairly equal, no Colorado “inflation”. I believe the Mets should trade d’Arnaud and Syndergaard for Tulowitski, and then promote Plawecki for catcher.
Next, lets look at the free agent market. While lefty options are available out of the pen, I would look into signing Sergio Santos. While he is an eye-sore at first glance, Santos has kept his career ERA under 4 in his 5 big league seasons. Also, having a 31 year old in the bullpen might spark some veteran leadership, like Jose Valverde.
